St. Mary
Does a beach, wine, and adventure
in a cave catch your interest? So what are you
waiting for? Plan and wear your traveling shoes
now and get to St. Mary. You can be assured
that the whole family will enjoy your vacation
in this smallest parish among the twelve parishes
of Jersey. St. Mary is located in the northwest
of the Jersey Island and occupies a land area
of 3,604 vergees. It is the parish that borders
other four parishes in the Island.
The Le Creux du Vis or the Devils
Hole is one of the natural attractions in St.
Mary. This is a spot of cave and cliff path.
This offers a lucrative tourist destination
to view the satanic majesty of this cave. It
is a natural cater that was formed with the
waters of the bay. It measures 100ft across
and 200 ft down to the ground. This will be
a great experience for everyone. A picture with
the Devils Hole in the background will
be a picture perfect for a post card.
Also, you can relax and lure
in the Greve de Lecq, a beach with wonderful
golden sand. You will be able to watch with
awe how fishermen bring their bountiful catch
to the shore. Also, you can join the local islanders
as they soak out in the sun on the wide stretches
of sand. The beach has a lot of parking spaces
so no need to worry about leaving your vehicles
elsewhere. At the eastern end of the beach,
you and your kids can also enjoy the stream
that flows over the coarse sand. Food would
not even be a problem since pubs and café
lined the shoreline of the beach. If you decide
to pay a visit to this place, also find a local
who can lead you to way to the secret beach.
But dont think that locals
of St. Mary only love the outdoors. They also
love to preserve the aesthetic, natural and
historic interest of Jersey. Should you want
to trace the past history of the island until
the present, visit the Elms. It was constructed
in the 1740 and is now the National Trust for
Jersey headquarters.
Lastly, a trip to St. Mary would
never be complete without a trip to the La Mare
Vineyards and Distillery. In here you will be
able to appreciate winemaking. This attraction
is not just for those adults that love premium
quality wine, even kids will enjoy this place.
The distillery has an adventure playground that
would keep the kids busy at play while you are
enjoying the trip to the vineyards, gardens
and orchards. You can also select and buy the
wine from them. They also have other special
gift items if you fancy something else.
Though it was regarded as the
smallest parish in the Jersey Islands, the preserved
friendly, family oriented and peaceful ambience
of St. Mary will keep you coming back yearly.
